What is Easyjournal?
Easyjournal is a free, easy-to-use website for keeping a journal online. In just two easy steps, anyone can publish a journal or weblog at a designated, personalized website address (http://yourname.easyjournal.com). Easyjournal also has several community-based features for connecting with other journal writers, soliciting reader feedback, and managing privacy and access restrictions.

You are using all the software you need right now. Your Easyjournal can be edited and viewed from any web browser, at any time. No software besides a web browser is required.

Why shouldn't I just use email to communicate with others?
Easyjournal lets you publish your journal to your personalized address (yourname.easyjournal.com) and prevents your carefully chosen words from getting lost in an endless sea of email. Friends, family and colleagues can check your Easyjournal at their own convenience. Your journal entries stay online-unlike email, which is quickly deleted, overlooked or forgotten.

How do you choose the Featured Journals that appear on the front page?
Featured Journals are a random selection of journals (only Easyjournal PRO subscribers) that have been updated recently and have a minimum number of journal entries. In an older version of Easyjournal, Featured Journals were handpicked and placed on the front page for an extended period of time.

How can my journal be a Featured Journal?
Because the Featured Journal selection process is random, we do not have any control over which specific journals appear on the front page. Therefore there is nothing you can do to guarantee or increase the likelihood that your journal will be chosen. Only journal accounts that are upgraded to Easyjournal PRO (our paid advanced edition of Easyjournal) can appear as a Featured Journal.

USING EASYJOURNAL
Is there a way for me to see exactly who has visited my journal?
Easyjournal shows you how many times your journal has been visited in the current month, and Easyjournal PRO shows you a variety of statistics about visits and usage of your journal in the current year. Easyjournal will not disclose specific visitors to any journal. This policy is in place for technical and privacy reasons.

How can I restrict access to my journal?
Easyjournal allows you to restrict various aspects of your journal. All of your privacy and access restriction options may be changed in your journal settings page. Following are the ways that you may restrict your journal:
- Your journal can be designated as LISTED or UNLISTED. Listed journals will appear in the journal directory and are eligible to appear as Featured Journals on the home page. Unlisted journals will not appear in the journal directory, the home page or anywhere else on the website.
- If your journal is unlisted you may designate a Privacy Passcode. This is a secret code that is required to view your journal. Using a Privacy Passcode is ideal if you would only like to share access to your journal with a restricted group of people or if you are using Easyjournal as a private diary.
- If your journal is unlisted but you do not designate a Privacy Passcode, anyone can still visit your journal (if they know the address) and they will not be asked to enter a passcode.
- You can designate who may leave you private messages at your journal. On your journal settings page, you can allow (1) Anybody, (2) Nobody, or (3) Registered Easyjournal Users only to leave you private messages.
- You can designate who may post public comments to your journal entries. On your journal settings page, you can allow (1) Anybody, (2) Nobody, or (3) Registered Easyjournal Users only to post messages.
- You can decide whose comments must first be approved before they appear online. You can require approval for (1) Everybody, (2) Nobody, or (3) Non-registered Users only.
How do I change the dimensions and file size of my profile photo?
This requires a graphics editing program. If your photo is from a digital camera, many of these devices come with software that can be used to edit your images. Easyjournal dispalys profile pictures in dimensions of 75 pixels by 75 pixels. If the dimensions of your profile picture do not match these dimensions it may appear stretched or smooshed on pages.

No. There is no character limit for your journal entries. They can be as long as you want.

Will my journal ever go away?
As long as you update your journal periodically it will remain online. However journals that are not updated for 30 days become delisted from the Easyjournal Directory. In this case the journal will be set to "unlisted".

How do I add externally hosted images into my journal entries?
Images that are hosted on a different website may be displayed in your Easyjournal entries. To insert an image into your journal entry do the following steps:
- As you are composing your journal entry click the "IMAGE" button at the top of the entry text box.
- At the prompt, enter the precise web address of the image you wish to add.
- Click "OK".
- Right-click on the image as it appears online.
- Select "Properties"
- Highlight the address (URL) property (e.g. http://www.mysite.com/images/photo1.jpg)
- Right-click the highlighted address and select "Copy"
- You may then paste the address into the prompted address field by pressing Ctrl+V.
How do I change my journal fonts, colors and other stylistic elements?
Your journal entries may contain basic HTML. We have conveniently encapsulated many of the most popular HTML formatting features into a toolbar on your add/edit entries page. You can highlight any text in your journal entry and make it bold, italic or underlined. You may also add images and links, and you can change the color and size of your fonts. These formatting buttons may not work with older browsers or certain operating systems.

Is it safe to use my credit card on Easyjournal?
YES. Easyjournal takes several steps to make sure that you (and we) are protected from security threats relating to credit card or identity theft. For starters, we only accept payment through our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection provided by Thawte. Actual credit card information is then processed by Verisign, the largest processor of Internet transactions in the world. As an extra measure, we only use your credit card information at the moment of the transaction. We do not store credit card information anywhere on our servers--so even in the unlikely event that our server security is breached, there would be no credit card data to be viewed, altered or stolen.

How do I get referral credits?
You get referral credits when someone who purchases an Easyjournal PRO subscription lists your Easyjournal username as the referrer. In other words, we give you these credits in reward for your bringing us subscribers. We currently do not have a limit to the number of referral credits that you can have. Are referral credits redeemable for anything besides Easyjournal PRO subscriptions?
NO. Referral credits can only be redeemed for Easyjournal PRO subscriptions at this time. In the future we may offer other products and services, and referral credits may be (but not necessarily) redeemable for those items.

How do I keep my journal private?
You can keep your journal private by making it unlisted and setting a Privacy Passcode. You may restrict access to your journal in "Account Settings". If you do not want your journal to be featured or listed in our directory, then select the "unlisted" option. If you want to restrict access to your journal you can enter a Privacy Passcode that will be needed in order to view your journal. However, the Privacy Passcode will only apply if your journal is unlisted.

Is the Easyjournal platform reliable?
Easyjournal's hosting platform is extremely reliable. We have partnered with a premium hosting provider whose equipment is powered by battery fed redundant commercial UPS systems, backed up by diesel generators, cooled to a constant 69° ( +/- 2° ) by redundant commercial A/C systems and connected to the Internet via multiple redundant fiber optic links from independent Tier-1 Internet backbone providers. Facility security is provided by bio-metric fingerprint scanners, limited card-key access and monitored 24 hours by both CCTV surveillance and on-site personnel. Critical data backups are performed daily to each of the provider's Dell PowerVault 220s Terabyte SCSI Systems. Each system is configured with 14 fault tolerant 15,000RPM 73GB SCSI's configured for RAID Level 5 with failover hot standby drives ready to automatically configure themselves in the unlikely event of a drive failure. Each backup is maintained for one week. So, yes, the Easyjournal platform is reliable.

Does Easyjournal use cookies?
Yes, Easyjournal uses cookies to set basic login information. This makes it easier for you to maintain a "session" with Easyjournal. If your browser does not have cookies enabled, please do the following steps (for Internet Explorer):
- Click on the "Tools" menu.
- Choose "Internet Options..."
- Click on the "Privacy" tab.
- Move your privacy settings to allow cookies, we recommend "Medium High".
- Click "Apply" and then "Ok".
Does Easyjournal distribute my personal information to third parties?
Please read Easyjournal's Privacy Policy. In a nutshell, we do not attempt to profit from selling, redistributing, or renting out your personal information.
